He was the son of Vana and Clara (Brelsford) Ballew.
At the age of 19, Wayne was serving our country in the United States Navy, during World War II. On June 6, 1944, D-Day, Wayne joined other members of ‘The Greatest Generation’ at Omaha Beach on the Normandy Coast of France.
He married Mary Louise Fittro, September 23, 1953 in Clinton. She preceded him in death.
Wayne joined the Illinois State Police, November 28, 1955. He graduated from the state police academy with Class #15. He began serving with District #10, Pesotum as a trooper. Wayne advanced through the ranks to Lieutenant, retiring December 31, 1982.
He enjoyed golfing, bridge clubs, traveling and fishing whenever he found the time.
Survivors include his son, Jeff (Pam Samara) Ballew of Champaign; his grandchildren, David (Amanda) Ballew, Debi (Hunter) DiFonso, Kristen Ballew; great-grandchildren, Caleb, Miles, Ella, and Evellyn.
Wayne was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Mary; his infant daughter, Louise Ann and his brother, Byrl Ballew.
