Robert Vernon Reese, Sr., 88, of Fitzgerald, died Thursday, March 28, 2019 at his residence in Fitzgerald.

Funeral services will be held 2PM, Saturday, March 30, 2019, at the Church of the Nazarene in Fitzgerald, with the Rev. Dan Hayes and the Rev. Kenny Croft officiating. Interment will follow in the Evergreen Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6PM-8PM at the funeral home in Fitzgerald on Friday evening as well as from 1PM-2PM at the church on Saturday.

Mr. Reese was born February 22, 1931, in Calhoun, Georgia, to the late Roland L. & Vera Martin Reese. He moved to the Fitzgerald community in 1948, moving from Calhoun, Georgia. Mr. Reese worked for the Seaboard Coast Line, for 10 years and owned and operated Reese Fabricating since 1960. He enjoyed deep sea fishing on the Gulf Coast, camping and visiting his mountain cabin in Ellijay. Recently Mr. Reese was able to travel with his family to Williamstown, Kentucky, to see the massive ship with three decks, depicting the biblical tale of Noah’s Ark. He was a faithful member of the Church of the Nazarene.

He is survived by his two sons: Dr. R.V. Reese, Jr. and his wife Joy of Fitzgerald and Bobby Reese of Fitzgerald; his grandchildren and their spouses: Rodney Reese of Fitzgerald, Dr. Paul & Jane Ellen Reese of Fitzgerald, Chad & Casey Reese of Savannah, Randy & Andrea Reese of Newnan, Russell & Hope Reese of Valdosta, and Ryan & Megan Reese of Jacksonville, Florida; his great-grandchildren: Collin, Carley, Rosalind, Benjamin, Matilda, Callie, Samuel, Wren Layna, and Ella Jane; brothers, Lamar Reese of California and Douglas Reese of Fitzgerald. There are many other relatives from North Georgia to South Georgia that survive. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death, by his wife, Mavis Minix Reese, siblings, Lorene Shamlee, Howard Maxwell Reese, Paul Reese, and Donald Reese.
