Virginia “Ginny” Lucille Akers Attmore passed peacefully on the evening of Wednesday, August 9, 2017 at IU University Hospital in Indianapolis, Indiana. She was born October 2, 1934 to Paul E and Hannah Mae Hawkins Akers. She was retired from Union Hospital in Terre Haute.
She is survived by her daughters Kristy Harrison and her husband Mike of Brunswick, Maine, and Lori Attmore of Terre Haute, grandson, Nickolaus Nakano of Escondido, California, a sister, Barbara Smith of Seelyville, sister-in-law Joanne Kostyo of Terre Haute as well as several beloved nieces and nephews.
Ginny was preceded in death by her husband of over 60 years Jim, her parents and her mother and father-in-law Joseph and Helen Attmore. Ginny graduated from Valley High School in West Terre Haute in 1952.
She was a member of the Swinging Mates Square Dance Club of Terre Haute and Laughing Squares Square Dance Club of Indianapolis. Ginny was active in the Indiana Dancer’s Association and enjoyed working events at the Indiana Motor Speedway duing her involvement in IDA. Ginny enjoyed spending the winters in Texas, cross stitching, completing Cryptograms, and reading from her trusty Kindle.
Family and friends are encouraged to share memories of Ginny on Saturday, August 12, 2017at Greiner Funeral Home, 2005 N. 13th St., Terre Haute, IN, 47804, during visitation from 11 AM to 1 PM with services following visitation. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. Reverend Larry Spear will be officiating.
