John B Howard was born on May 31, 1925 in San Bernardino California. He passed away on August 11,2017 in Redlands California, with family at his side.

John lived his entire life in San Bernardino, graduating from San Bernardino High School.

John was preceded in death by his wife Phyllis, his parents Walter and Ella Howard, his sons Robert and Paul and daughter Teresa.

He is survived by his daughters, Debbie Powell, Lynn Wagner, Carol Roff, Denise Martinez, and Patricia Campos . He is also survived by 13 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren.

John also leaves behind a host of lifelong friends, that will never forget how kind and gentle he was.

John was active in the Boy Scouts of America as a young boy; he continued his involvement with the Boy Scouts after his discharge from the military. John was a role model for many young men that grew up in the San Bernardino area.

John enlisted in the Marine Corp at age 17 and served in World War II , stationed in the Philippines. After he was honorably discharged from the Marine Corp, he joined the San Bernardino Police Department in 1946, retiring at the rank of Sergeant in 1978. After his retirement from the Police Department John worked with his son-in-law, Dick Wagner for approximately 10 years in the horse racing industry.

John loved camping and traveling with his wife Phyllis throughout the United States , visiting with family and friends. They often camped at Silent Valley , where John could be found just relaxing and reading a book.

John will be deeply missed by everyone whose life he touched.

Service with Military honors will be held at The National Cemetery in Riverside, California on September 12, 2017, at 10:30 am.

In lieu of flowers, donations could be sent to The Boy Scouts of America or a charity of your choice.
