Thamir Jawdat Al-Hussaini, 84, of Denver died June 20 at his home. He was born on July 4, 1932 in Iraq to the late Jawdat and Zakia Al-Hussaini. He graduated from the Iraqi National Police College, earning a Bachelor's Degree then completed special training in the Secret Service. In 1956, he was commissioned to a study tour in England with the Scotland Yard for one year. In 1963, as a Captain in the Secret Service, he came to America under a training program sponsored jointlyby the U.S. State Department's Agency for International Development and the International Association of Chiefs of Police. In 1969, he graduated from UNCC with a B.S. in Electrical Engineering. After 32 years of employment, he retired as a Design Engineer from Duke Energy. Thamir attended the Neighborhood Church. Thamir's first love was his family. He was always happiest when they were all around him. His grandchildren affectionately called him Jidu. He was known for his wonderful cooking. His specialties were lamb and baklava. He was a gracious host. One of the many things he loved was traveling around the world, especially the Far East. Thamir was a sports enthusiast. He especially loved water skiing and playing golf with his friends.The Lake Norman Athletic Club was a favorite spot for him. He enjoyed working out and visiting with his friends there.
Survivors include his wife Vicki; sons, James and wife Jennifer of Mooresville and Basil and wife MaryBeth of Denver; daughter, Anisa Hodges and husband David of Denver; and grandchildren, Jimmy, Peyton, Julia, Davis, Nick, Jack and Layla.

A memorial service will be held at 2PM Saturday, June 24 in the chapel of James Funeral Home with Rev. Landon Horton officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service.
