Couple Killed in Robbery Attempt
Modesto(UP)-a Cafe proprietor and his wife were shot and killed last night during an attempted armed robbery of their establishment 18 miles east of here.
The dead were identified as Earl Hasting, 50, and his wife Pauline, 45, operators of the Hilltop Inn near Oakdale.
Under sheriff Harry Oliver said two men attempted to hold up the cafe and Mr. and Mrs. Hastings were wounded fatally when they tried to resist the robbery.
