Christiana's father John Roger Wood worked in partnership with his father Roger Wood at a foundry they started on their property. The foundry prospered for about 20 years until it burned to the ground. John R. Wood was also active in the militia. He was a lieutenant during the rebellion of 1837, raising a company at Osnabruck Township, and was later made a Lieutenant Colonel in command of the Second Battalion of Stormont Militia in 1863.
