George was born to Abraham Bockoven and Elizabeth Thomas. His siblings included Peter, b.1786, Anna, b.1790, David, b.1792, Mary, b.1795, Abram, b.1797, Eliza, b.1800, Phebe, b.1802, Hannah, b.1806 and Jane, b.1810.
 
He married Gertrude Ann “Gitty” Arnold on Nov. 21, 1808. Gitty was the daughter of Ziba Arnold and Mary Polly Reeves of Morristown.

George and Gitty had four children; Abraham, b.1809, Eliza, b.1811, Anna, b.1814 and Mary, b.1816.
 
Gitty died on April 17, 1822.

Fifteen years later, George married widow Susan Ann (Hamilton) Miller on Nov. 26, 1837, in New Vernon, Somerset County, New Jersey. They were married by the Reverend Carey.

George and Susan had three children; Susan Caroline Bockoven, b.1838, George M. Bockoven, b.1842, and Charles L. D. Bockoven, b.1846. These children were minors when Susan died in 1850, and were put under the guardianship of Susan's adult children that she had by her first husband Charles Miller.


George died at the age of 60, in 1848. The burial records, for him and his second wife Susan, are still with the First Presbyterian Church in Morristown. A burial record for his first wife has not yet been found.
 

George's grandfather, his namesake, Lt. George Bockoven was a revolutionary war soldier.
