Mr. Vernon Edwin Aarstol was a skilled carpenter, Marine Corps Veteran, and beloved father. He passed peacefully on December 21st, 2009, from acute leukemia. Vernon served 3 years in the U.S. Marine Corps, discharging in 1957 when he began his career as a carpenter. Born and raised in Whatcom County, Vernon gave back to his community by sharing his trade knowledge with apprentices through the Bellingham Technical College. After he retired in 1994, he spent his time floating down the Nooksack River with friends and family, hosting pool tournaments, cultivating his vegetable garden, and pressing apple cider. Also an avid reader, Vernon had a thirst for knowledge and loved learning about the history of his country. Vernon is survived by his children, Edwin Aarstol (Mona), Cynthia Pottle (Mark), and Mark Aarstol (Donna); as well as seven grandchildren: Chad, Nicole, Tiffany, Jessica, Tyler, Luke and Elizabeth; three great-grandchildren: Tehya, Kelton and Branden and his siblings, Maxine Trettevik (Tous), Jack Fuller (Mary), LeRoy Fuller (Sandy), Joanne Jordan, and Deanne Cain (Carl). He was preceded by his wife, Gail who passed in October 1994, and his sister Sheryl Love who passed in 1998. A Celebration of Vernon's life will be held on Wednesday, December 30th, at 2:00 p.m. at Greenacres Funeral Home, 5700 Northwest Drive, Ferndale.
