Charles Devoy "Fuzz" Adkins

(November 16, 1948 - August 21, 2017)

Charles Devoy “Fuzz” Adkins, 68 of the Adria community in North Tazewell, VA died Monday, August 21, 2017 at Johnston Memorial Hospital in Abingdon, VA. Born November 16, 1948 at Richlands, VA, he was a son of the late Charles David and Garnett Mangus Adkins. Fuzz worked in the coal mines for 23 years, until he developed multiple sclerosis and had to retire. Coal mining was in his blood and he never really stopped mining coal. He enjoyed meeting friends he worked with over the years and swapping stories with them. He enjoyed the outdoors and hunting as long as his health permitted. He was so happy when we moved to the woods. He was most at peace and most content sitting on the front porch contemplating life. He loved his family and friends with fierce loyalty. He couldn’t rest if he thought anyone was in need and he had the means to help them. His faith was his rock. He prayed more than once a day for his family and his church family. He faced many serious illnesses in his life, but he trusted God to get him through each one. He attended Yost Chapel Freewill Baptist Church in Baptist Valley, VA.

He is survived by his wife of 41 years, Joyce Pruett Adkins; daughter, Rhonda Adkins who was the light of his life and daughter, Michelle Mae Adkins of Winston Salem, NC; sister, Mary Alice Brown of Dublin, VA; grandson, Matthew Scot Adkins; mother in law, Shirley Pruett of Tazewell, VA; special aunt, Nelsie Earls of Ceres, VA; several nieces, nephews, and his canine companion, Kirby.

The family will receive friends from 12:30 PM until 1 PM Thursday, August 24, 2017 at Grandview Memory Gardens Mausoleum in Bluefield, VA where graveside services will be conducted at 1 PM with Pastor Chuck Patterson officiating.
