Carolyn Joyce Steppe, 64, of St. Joseph, passed away Friday, August 18, 2017, at a local healthcare facility with her husband and Sister Barbara Conroy by her side.
Carolyn was born December 9, 1952 in St. Joseph, MO to Donald and Teresa (Swope) Redmond. She graduated from Bishop LeBlond High School in 1971 and from Missouri Western State College in 1975 with a degree in Elementary Education. On June 19, 1977 she married Dennis L. Steppe in St. Joseph. She worked for the St. Joseph School District, first at Lake Contrary School and then at Pickett School for 32 years, retiring in 2007. For the past ten years she cared for her mother.
She was a member of Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church and the Missouri Retired Teacher's Association. She enjoyed getting together with other retired teachers for lunch monthly as well as playing Mah Jong in a couple of other groups monthly. She also adored her 3 grandchildren and her Boston Terrier, "Buddy".
Mrs. Steppe is survived by her husband, Dennis of the home; a daughter, Jennifer Lollar (Drew) of Edmond, OK; grandchildren, Emma, Ella and Maddox; her mother, Teresa Redmond of St. Joseph; a brother, Brian Redmond of Kansas City, MO, a niece, Ashley Burnett of Clearwater, FL and a nephew, Zach Redmond of Kansas City, MO. She was preceded in death by her father, Donald Redmond and a son, Matthew Steppe.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10:00AM Saturday, August 26, 2017, at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church. Interment will be at Memorial Park Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:30 to 8:30 PM at Heaton-Bowman-Smith and Sidenfaden Chapel. A Parish Rosary will be recited, Friday, at 7:00 PM at the chapel.
