Shelley Read, died peacefully, February 19, 1996, at Stratford Hall Nursing Center, In Richmond, VA. She is survived by her daughter, Alice Read Balfrey; and two grandsons, Brian, and Robert Jr. Shelley was born November 27, 1900 in Covington, KY, the only child of Shelley D. and Alice Read Rouse. She was the widow of Nicholas S. Aagesen, who died In May 1995, at age 94. The Aagesens were married 62 years. Covington was Shelley's home during her younger years. She was a 1921 graduate of Sweet Briar College, where she began her lifelong Interest In genealogy. After marriage, Grosse Pointe, Ml, was her home. She was active there In the Michigan Genealogical Society, as well as the Colonial Dames of Michigan, and the Junior League of Detroit. Shelley took her interest in genealogy with her when the family moved to Richmond In 1972, joining the Virginia Genealogical Society. In addition to her life's work in this area, she was a member of the Jamestown Society, the Society of Mayflower Descendants of Virginia, the Virginia Writers' Club, the Virginia Historical Society, the Colonial Dames of the Commonwealth of Virginia, and The Woman's Club. Shelley was a longtime member of Saint James's Episcopal Church.
