Susan Adella Potter was the daughter of Riley Potter and Hulda Austin. She grew up in Pennsylvania most of her life and it is there where she met her beloved husband Charles Seymour Penfield. They were married in 1879 in Springfield.
Susan and Charles had four children:
*Franklyn Potter Penfield
*Perle Potter Penfield
*Elsie Penfield
*Mabel Potter Penfield
She stayed on the east coast for most of her early years, caring for the children while Charles went out west to purchase land and conduct business. She later moved with Charles and the family to Texas. After Charles death, Susan went to live with her daughter, Dr. Perle Penfield-Newell in California where she died.
