Financier, Stockbroker, Sportsman. Youngest son of James Laws Hutton & Frances Eloise Hulse. Hutton attended Yale and in 1899, his older brother E. F. Hutton founded the brokerage firm of Harris, Hutton & Co. He joined the firm after his graduation in 1900. In 1904, Harris left the firm and it became E. F. Hutton & Co. Franklyn represented the firm on the floor of the New York Stock Exchange. Franklyn married Edna Woolworth in 1907, and their daughter Barbara was born in 1912. In 1917 Edna died of a rare ear infection in the Hutton residence at the Plaza Hotel. After the death of his first wife, Hutton relocated to California. In 1926 he married Irene Curley Bodde of Detroit. Hutton managed his daughter Barbara's inheritance, at which time she received about $18,000,000 from the estate of her mother and grandparents, the Woolworths.

Hutton turned this sum into a $42,000,000 fortune. Hutton retired to Prospect Hill, his plantation in South Carolina. Franklyn Laws Hutton died here on December 5th 1940. (Originally, Mr. Hutton was to be cremated and his ashes were suppose to be spread on his estate Prospect Hill. This plan was changed at the last minute and his body was ordered transferred to New York City. Frank E. Campbell received the body and eventually Hutton was entombed in a private room in the Ferncliff Mausoleum in Hartsdale, New York.)
