Marion – Harold "Max" Ewert, 79, passed away March 15, 2022 at Ascension Via Christi St. Francis, Wichita.
He was born April 4, 1942 in Marion, KS the son of Harold and Doris Ewert.
Max spent most of his life working as a carpenter. In addition to wood working, he enjoyed many hobbies that kept him active over the years – fishing, camping, water skiing, snow skiing, snowmobiling, hiking, rock climbing, horseback riding, hunting, and model trains. Though he loved his Kansas roots, he had a passion for the mountains. He moved his family to Gunnison, Colorado where he resided for over 30 years. While in Gunnison, Max was instrumental in establishing the booster club for Gunnison High School as well as Project Graduation. He also built a cabin in Tin Cup, Colorado that he and his family enjoyed for many years.
He was of the Christian faith – being an active member of various church families throughout his entire life. He most recently attended the Community Church at Gunnison, CO where he was active in the "Hoodlum Lunch" program ministering to area teen boys, and the Marion Presbyterian Church, Marion, KS.
On September 1, 1963 he married Gerri Schultz in Newton, KS. She survives.
Other survivors include: his daughters Cindi (Troy) Smith, Larned, KS, Kristi (Mark) Moneypenny, Milford, KS; sister Donna (Jerome) Hajek, Marion, KS, brother Gene (Kathy) Ewert, Neodesha, KS, brother Gary (Elaine) Ewert, Marion, KS; grandchildren – Hannah and Erin Smith, and Ethan and Kayli Moneypenny; several nieces and nephews, other relatives, and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, brother, Wayne Ewert, and grandson, Evan Moneypenny.
Memorial service was held, Saturday, March 19, 2022 at the Marion Presbyterian Church, Marion, KS with Pastor Jeremiah Lange presiding.
Memorials may be given to the Marion Presbyterian Church or the MHS PAC c/o Traci Helmer at Tampa State Bank.
