Roy and Leigh made Palm City, Florida, home in their retirement. Roy's "second" home in retirement was in his beloved Hanover, New Hampshire, where he would spend the fall seasons watching the Dartmouth Football team. He rarely missed practices or a home game and was happy to discover the internet later in life which allowed him to watch games he could not attend in person. Roy eventually settled in Bozeman, Montana, in 2016 to be near his three children - his Golden Retriever, Barney, was his cherished, constant, and loyal companion.
Roy graduated from The George School, Dartmouth College ('52) and the Tuck School of Business. He married Leigh Hinsie in 1954. He began his long, successful career in finance at Chase Manhattan Bank and later at Gulf & Western Industries, Inc. and then Drexel Burnham Lambert.
Roy and Leigh had 4 children, Roy III, Ann, Kenneth and William. One of Roy's passions was travel and he took his wife and children on numerous adventures throughout the country and around the world. Roy spent much of his recreational time on tennis and paddle tennis courts and he also loved to ski and enjoyed any opportunity to travel with his wife and family on ski vacations.
Roy is survived by his sister and brother-in-law, Connie and Tim Ray of Gainesville, Florida; niece Rebecca Ray (David) of Amherst, Massachusetts; nephew Gregory Ray (Ginger) of State College, Pennsylvania; daughter and son-in-law, Ann and Guy Klaas of Bozeman, Montana; son and daughter-in-law, Kenneth and Penni of Bozeman, Montana; and son, William, also of Bozeman, Montana. Roy took great pride in his three granddaughters, Price, Morgan and Kerinleigh (Kayleigh).
He was preceded in death by his son and namesake, Roy III, and his wife of 58 years, Leigh.
The family is planning a celebration of his life during the summer of 2017.
In lieu of flowers or gifts, donations can be made to Galavan Transit (H.R.D.C), a non-profit organization providing transportation for senior citizens, of Bozeman, Montana.
