Lizzie was the daughter and 5th of 8 children of John Bernard Mulhern and Maggie (aka Brave Woman, aka Brown Tipi, aka Marie Louise.) John was an Irishman and Maggie was a Santee Sioux from Minnesota Territory. Lizzie was deaf and mute. She married in 1909 to Charles Bailey (aka Herman Heiden) They lived in Cannon Ball where Charles worked for Lizzie's father John, carrying mail across the frozen Missouri River. At some point, they moved to Selfridge. They were the parents of eight children, two died in infancy. Lizzie died shortly after the birth of her last child.
