Effie Jane Blake, daughter of Ephraim and Emily Oviatt Cannon, was born in Dane County, Wis. on Jan. 29, 1865, and died at her home in Cherokee, Feb. 1955, at the age of 90 years. Burial was in Afton Township Cemetery.

At the age of two she came to Cherokee County, Iowa, with her family. She received her education in the rural schools and later taught for several years.

On June 17, 1890, she married Fred Lincoln Blake. They lived on his family farm in Afton Township until Jan. 1945, when they moved to Cherokee, Iowa.

At an early age Mrs. Blake became a member of the Methodist Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband who died June 18, 1945. Her parents, four brothers and six sisters also preceded her in death.

She is survived by a daughter, Mrs. Edna Lynch of Cherokee and by a son, John Blake of Arnolds Park, Iowa; Seven grandchildren, Jack And Betty Lynch; Eleanor, Muriel, Rolan, Russell, and Donald Blake. One brother, Clinton J. Cannon of Winfield, Kansas; and one sister, Mrs. Leah Barnes of Mesa, Ariz.

Funeral services were conducted from The Boothby Funeral Home Feb. 19, with Rev. L. H. Pruel of Spencer officiating.
