CARROLLTON, Ala. - Cleland Ray "Gig" Gilliam, 76, died March 5, 2007, at Pickens County Medical Center. Graveside services were today at 10 a.m. at Carrollton City Cemetery with the Revs. Thomas L. Hammons Jr. and Tim Alexander officiating. Skelton Funeral Home of Reform, Ala., was in charge of arrangements. Mr. Gilliam was born Dec. 16, 1930, in Greene County, Ala., to the late John Raymond Gilliam and Florence Chaney Gilliam. He was a member of Carrollton United Methodist Church and a U.S. Navy veteran of the Korean conflict. He was a retired insurance agent and restaurant manager and a well-known resident of Pickens County. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Eloise Gilliam. He is survived by his wife, Doris Hale Gilliam of Carrollton; daughters, Joan Boothe and Laurie Gilliam, both of Carrollton, Nancy Williams of Columbus, and Gay Steele of Pleasant Ridge, Ala.; sons, John and Dan Gilliam, both of New Hope, and Mark Gilliam of Aliceville, Ala; brothers, John Calvin Gilliam of Aliceville and Clarence Albert Gilliam of Foley, Ala.; sister, Ann Jane Timms of Meridian; 16 grandchildren. Memorials may be made to Carrollton First United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 145, Carrollton, AL 35447.
