Charles R. "Buddy" Waychoff Jr., 87, of Zelienople, formerly of Morrow, Ohio, Waynesburg and Cranberry Township, died Tuesday at Passavant Retirement Community, Zelienople. Born Feb. 27, 1921, in Waynesburg, he was the son of the late Charles R. and Deborah (Johnson) Waychoff. Mr. Waychoff was a member of St. Gregory Catholic Church, Zelienople.

He was a master sergeant in the U.S. Army during World War II, served in the Asiatic-Pacific Theatre and the Philippines and received two Bronze Stars. Buddy was a member of Cranberry Elks Lodge 2247, the VFW and a 50-year member of the American Legion in Mason, Ohio.He was known as a master baker.

He is survived by three sons, Charles R. Waychoff III (Vicki) of Gallatin, Tenn., Jeffrey S. Waychoff (Linda) of Harmony and Randy A. Waychoff of Cincinnati; two daughters, Linda Barnhorst (Dave) of The Villages, Fla., and Cheryl Rosenthal (Randy) of Cincinnati; a brother, James Waychoff (Ruth) of Core, W.Va.; two sisters, Emily Phillips and Dorothy Anderson, both of Waynesburg; 19 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Betty Louise (Mitchell) Waychoff, who died May 14, 2005; and a daughter, Deborah Trozzi. The family would like to thank Passavant Retirement Community for the loving care of their father.

Friends of Charles R. "Buddy" Waychoff Jr., who died Tuesday, Aug. 12, 2008, will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at Boylan Funeral Home Inc., 324 E. Grandview Ave., Zelienople. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 9 a.m. Saturday at St. Gregory Catholic Church, 2 W. Beaver St., Zelienople, with Father Robert M. Miller officiating. Entombment will be Monday at Crown Hill Memorial Park and Mausoleum, Cincinnati. Memorial donations may be made to St. Gregory Catholic School, 2 W. Beaver St., Zelienople, PA 16063.
