p. 233 - Miss B. Tavenner - Esteemed and Respected Woman of City Passes to Her Reward
As a result of an accident sustained several weeks ago when she fell, sustaining severe injuries, which were aggravated by advanced age, Miss Bettie Tavenner, one of the most respected women of the city, died Monday night. Miss Tavenner was a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Isaac Tavenner, pioneer residents of Wirt county, and a sister of Judge Lewis N. Tavenner, of this city. She was born in Elizabeth, W. Va., but came to Parkersburg in 1865, where she had resided ever since. Her gentle and lovable nature, found expression in many acts of kindness quietly done and "Miss Bettie" was beloved alike by old and young and her death will be learned of with sorrow, particularly by the older residents of this city who knew her in youth and walked with her down the long course of years until her summons came. She was deeply religious and when in good health took an active interest in church work affiliating a number of years ago with the First Baptist church of this city.
Miss Tavenner is survived by four brothers who are Judge Lewis N. Tavenner and George W. Tavenner, of this city; James Tavenner, of Buena Vista, on the Inter-uban, and Isaac Tavenner, of Kansas City, Missouri.
The remains were removed today from her late residence, 803 Fourteenth street, to the home of her cousin, Miss Mary Tavenner at 414 Seventh street. The funeral services will be conducted on Tuesday morning at 10 o'clock at the residence of Miss Mary Tavenner, 414 Seventh street, by Dr. J. C. Killian of the First Baptist church. The interment will be made in the Riverview cemetery.
