==== OUR NEW SHERIFF ====

"Capt. R.P. Fly, who has been appointed to fill the office of sheriff of LaSalle County, made vacant by the death of C.B. McKinney, served one term as sheriff of Duval County, this state, when it took a man of nerve and determination to protect the interests of the people there from all kinds of depredation at the hands of outlaws banded together for evil purposes, and acquitted himself with credit, winning the admiration and respect of every lover of law and order in the county. He is well and favorably known throughout Western Texas and a recognized expert after criminals-in fact, possesses all these peculiar qualifications requisite to be a good and faithful sheriff, and was a warm personal friend of our late sheriff. Capt. Fly was not an applicant for the office and only accepted it at the current solicitation of a large number of the representative men of La Salle county. We have known him several years and feel no hesitation in saying that the interests of the county will be safe in his deeds. Several letters have been received by our leading citizens from different sections of Western Texas, congratulating them upon getting so efficient a gentleman to serve them."
