Mr. Belcher was born October 22, 1938, near Brownsboro, in Henderson County, TX to William Charles Belcher and Hettie Harrison Belcher. His parents moved from East Texas to Dallas when he was a small child, and in 1957, he graduated from Samuell High School in Dallas, Jim received his Bachelors and Masters Degrees from the University of North Texas, and was certified as well as a pupil-personnel counsellor. In 1962, he began his 38 year career with the Dallas Independent School District. He taught at John B. Hood Middle School for nine years. Jim then moved into administrative positions at Robert T. Hill Middle School, Skyline High School, Spruce High School, B.H. Macon Elementary School, and retired from Herbert Marcus Elementary School.

In 1957, Jim Belcher met Mary Grace Robertson, from Telephone, TX, when she came into the Sunday Bible Class he was teaching at the Park Avenue Church of Christ in Dallas, TX. On April 1, 1960 Charles Jimmie Belcher and Mary Grace Robertson were married in Dallas, TX. They reared their son, Brian James Belcher, there. Jim and Mary lived in Dallas until their retirement, when they returned to Fannin County, Mary’s birthplace.

Jim’s family was his pride and joy, and he loved them beyond measures. He was a country boy at heart and enjoyed traveling, gardening, cooking, and reading. Life took a big turn for Jim and Mary, when Jim’s namesake and “Sugar Boy,” Charles, a special need child, was born. At that time, Jim declared that he believed he and Mary could be a help to Charles. From that day forward, even while battling debilitating illness, Jim’s focus on Charles remained steady.

Visitation will be held prior to the service starting at 10:30 am on Saturday, September 9, 2017 at Northside Church of Christ.
