David Ivan Deel, Lt. Col., USAF, Retired, passed away unexpectedly on September 5, 2017, at the age of 70, at his home in McQueeney, Texas.

He was a loving man of compassion, integrity, and with the innate ability to make everyone around him better.

He was born to Ollie Ivan Deel and Helen Frances Wood in Jacksonville, Texas on November 9, 1946 to become a man who enriched all who knew him through his basic decency and respect for his fellow man.

The son of a career officer in the Air Force, he graduated from Glasgow High School in Montana. He married Cheryl Lajuan Poteet on February 1, 1969. He received his Bachelor of Business Administration at North Texas State University in 1970. He then entered the United States Air Force. While in the Air Force, he furthered his education receiving a Master of Arts Degree in 1981. He was a highly respected officer and friend to many. He loved his country and the men and woman who continue to risk their lives for our freedom.

Brothers Forever

Growing up in West Texas (El Paso, Abilene) and the island of Guam during the decade of the 50's thru the mid 60's, my big brother David and I had a great childhood and had many wonderful adventures.
During the summer school break we would wake up in the morning, eat breakfast and then go outside to play. Our mother had only one stipulation and that was we had to be back for lunch and supper.
Most days we would go barefoot and by the end of summer the bottom of our feet would be as hard as leather.
We would play cowboys and indians in the desert outside of El Paso.
We would jump off the roof top of our house yelling "Geronimo!"
We would build tree houses in mesquite trees.
We would build forts out of sunflower stems.
We would build rafts that we would sail across stock ponds.
We would fish for Crawdads.
We would have dirt clod fights with other boys.
We would catch horny toads and play with them before letting them go.
We would ride our bicycles behind the street sweeper and collect the bristles that would fall off on the street.
We would run behind the DDT truck to smell the fog.
We would play baseball in the street and call time out when a car would drive by.
We would quench our thirst from water hoses.
We would go fishing at Mud Creek with our Granddaddy Wood.
We would collect GI Combat and Sgt. Rock comic books.
We would watch Saturday morning cartoons.
We would explore the jungles of Guam and occasionally discover remnants from World War II.
We would go to Tarague Beach on Guam every day snorkeling for seashells.
What fun we had!
Brothers forever!

By his brother, Dennis.
