William Gordon "Bill" Abernathy, 83, of West Memphis, Arkansas, died Saturday, September 19, 2015 at Methodist University Hospital in Memphis, Tennessee. Mr. Abernathy was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of West Memphis, he was a Korean War Veteran serving in the U. S. Air Force, he moved to West Memphis in the early 60's and opened the Minnow Bucket Bait Shop, then opened the Sportsman One Stop, and in 1965 purchased Wonder City Cafeteria, He was an avid sportsman who loved to hunt Turkeys and Ducks as well as fishing and playing Golf, he loved people and enjoyed talking with them. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge for fifty years and was a Grand Master Mason, a member of the Scottish Rite and a Shriner. A life time member of the Marion and West Memphis V.F.W. Post 5225, the American Legion. He served Crittenden County as Treasurer, Past President of Meadowbrook Country Club, and Past President of Memphis State Rebounders Club. He attended Memphis State where he studied aeronautical engineering. He is survived by his wife of 65 years Anne Wilson Abernathy of West Memphis, AR; a daughter, Deborah Abernathy of West Memphis.
