Anna died at age 25 at 30 Washington Street in Hartford, CT, which appears to have been close to the current location of the Connecticut Office Building, home of the Department of Education. Her death certificate states that she died of "dementia praecox," now referred to as schizophrenia. It is plausible that Anna spent the end of her life, perhaps longer, in an institution. Ruth Hart, born in 1922 and a grand daughter of Levi Columbus Chapin, remembers her mother, Bertha Chapin Viering, saying that Anna was a child that could never be left home alone.
