On July 14, 1957, he was united in marriage to Lorraine Maertz. Throughout their marriage of 55 years, the Lord blessed them with six children.
His children, eighteen grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren, sister, brother, brother-in-law, sister-in-law, nieces, nephews, and many other friends and family are all awaiting a grand reunion around Jesus’ throne of glory.
Delbert served in the United States Army and was a veteran of the Korean War. He was an active member of Faith Lutheran Church in Fond du Lac where he served on multiple church boards. In addition, he loved his community, dedicating many years to the Kiwanis Club of Fabulous Fond du Lac heading their fundraising activities at Walleye Weekend and the annual September Pork Fest. He was the owner of Waldschmidt Burial Vaults and concluded his work career at Uecker-Witt Funeral Home and Overnight Livery Service. Delbert valued his friendships made through his church, work life, Kiwanis and the Legion Hall.
Keeping his family close was a priority to Delbert which led him to establish a tradition of weekly family steak nights. His grandchildren were especially close to his heart, whether he was beaming with pride at his grandsons or taking the opportunity to steal a kiss from his granddaughters.
Three of his grandchildren will share God’s Word at his funeral service. Visitation will be held on Saturday, September 9, 2017 at Uecker-Witt Funeral Home from 3:00 to 7:00 PM. Funeral services will be held at Faith Lutheran Church, 55 N. Prairie Road on Sunday, September 10, 2017 at 2:00 PM with visitation from 12:30 PM till the time of service. Burial will take place on Monday, September 11, 2017 at 10:00 AM at Ledgeview Memorial Park.
