The Locust Hill Cemetery can be traced back to around 1900 when five men purchased the land, then a cornfield, and developed it into a cemetery for Chester and community. The men responsible were J.C. Cunningham, Robert Emmett Allison, Richard Allison, Hooker Winfield Allison, and Thomas R. Cunningham"

Death Claims Richard Allison

Passed Away at 6 O'Clock This Morning at His Home Near Locust Hill Cemetery. Richard Allison, a well known and esteemed farmer of near the Locust Hill cemetery, died at 6 o'clock this morning form the effects of a stroke of paralysis, sustained several months ago. The funeral arrangements have not been completed. The deceased was 62 years of age and was born and reared near the farm where he died. Besides his wife he is survived by three children Thomas at home, Joseph of Chester and Mrs. D.W. Allison of the Locust Hill neighborhood. He is also survived by one brother, Baker Allison of Chester.

Funeral services over the remains of the late Richard Allison will be held at 2 o'clock tomorrow afternoon from the home, near Locust Hill cemetery, Rev. J. W. McIntyre, pastor of the First M. E. church, Chester, officiating. Interment in Locust Hill cemetery.

Richard Allison Answers Call Of The Grim Reaper

Aged Hancock County Farmer Passes Away After Long Illness.

Richard F. Allison, a life long resident of Hancock County, died yesterday morning at 6 o'clock at the late home, near Locust Hill Cemetery following an illness of three months caused by three paralytic strokes. Mr. Allison suffered his first stroke on December 24 of last year, while in Chester. A few weeks afterwards he suffered the second stroke and his death was hastened by the third stroke on last Tuesday. Since the last stroke, Mr. Allison has been gradually growing worse and his end has been momentarily expected. The deceased was 65 years of age. He was born September 6th, 1849 near Tomlinsons Run, where his father resided for several years. He was the son of Mr. and Mrs. James B. Allison. In April 1875, Mr. Allison was united in marriage to Miss Mary M. Brunson of near Hookstown. Shortly after his marriage he removed to the farm near Locust Hill cemetery where he has since resided. The announcement of Mr. Allison's death comes as a shock to his many friends throughout Hancock county. Throughout the vicinity he was held in high esteem by all who knew him. He was especially willing to lend a helping hand of the needy. Mr. Allison was one of the organizers of the Locust Hill cemetery which was first established in February of 1900, and up until a few weeks ago he was President of the Cemetery Association. For the past year Mr. Allison has been Road Supervisor of Grant District. The deceased was a member of the New Cumberland order of the Junior Order of American Mechanics. Besides his wife, Mr. Allison is survived by two sons and one daughter. Thomas Allison, at home; Mrs. D. M. Allison of Grant District, and Joseph M. Allison of Chester. One sister, Mrs. Mary Ann Beal of East Liverpool and a brother, Baker Allison, also of East Liverpool, survive. Funeral services over the remains will be held Wednesday afternoon at 2 o'clock from the late home, Rev. J. W. McIntyre, pastor of the First Methodist Episcopal church of Chester, officiating. Interment will be made at Locust Hill cemetery.
