Adele Anselmo, 93, of New Britain passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family on Monday August 18, 2014.

She was the beloved wife of the late Vincent Anselmo.

Adele was born in Manchester, CT., and attended schools there until she moved to New Britain.

She was the daughter of the late James and Mary (Agostinelli) Varasconi.

Adele’s interests were cooking, baking, gardening, knitting, playing cards and spending time with her family.

She and her husband owned and operated a grocery store on the corner of Lee and Clark Street. Adele also worked at Fafnir Bearing, Macristy Industries and Stanley Works. She was a member of the Stanley Women’s Club, a longtime member of St. Ann’s Church and The Legion of Mary. Adele was dedicated to her faith and family.

Adele is survived by two loving daughters and sons-in-law – Linda and Thomas Hughes of New Hartford, CT., Marie and Gordon Sorensen of Higganum, CT. She also leaves her beloved grandchildren Michael and Tammy (Hughes) Zukowski, Lindsay Hughes and fiancé Ryan Ziemba, Julia Sorensen and Gordon Sorensen.

Adele has one brother, Bruno Varasconi and his late wife Alma, four sisters and brothers-in-law: the late Sue and Joseph Lipka, Florence Corr and her late husband Harold, Mary and Bill Vilardi, Jean and Jim Frugale; and many nieces and nephews.

Funeral rites for Adele were held Friday August 22, 2014 with the procession departing from the Paul A. Shaker/Farmingdale Funeral Home, New Britain, CT., followed by a Liturgy of Christian Burial at St. Ann Church, New Britain, CT.

Committal service and final resting place were in St. Mary Cemetery, New Britain, CT.

Paul A. Shaker/Farmingdale Funeral Home handled arrangements.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to St. Ann Church or a charity of the donor’s choice.
