ACKERSON Herbert Dee Ackerson, long time Hilliard resident, died March 22 at Riverside Hospital. He was born January 5, 1928 in Brooklyn, New York. He is survived by his loving wife of 47 years, Rosemary Kraus. He is the beloved father of daughter, Carol Ackerson (Doug Trucano) of Juneau, Alaska; and sons, Dr. Laird (Jacqueline) of Hilliard, Scott (Catherine) of Los Angeles, California, and Keith of Hilliard. He was adored by his grandchildren, Natalie, Ken, Kayleigh and Alexandra Ackerson. He dearly loved his family and friends Herb was a veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps serving during World War II in the Philippines. He graduated from Temple University. He was President and Chairman of the Board for White-Haines Optical Company. Herb was an artist, animal lover and avid sports fan (Go Bucks). He was involved in youth sports, coaching Optimist football and basketball as well as the HBA Lions Pony League for 13 years. He belonged to Resurrection Evangelical Lutheran Church of Hilliard and was a founding member of the Ridgewood Optimist Club. He was also a long-time member of Brookside Country Club. Everyone is invited to a Memorial Service which will be performed by Rev. Warren Reichert at Resurrection Evangelical Lutheran Church, 3500 Main St., Hilliard, on Monday, March 26 at 6:30 p.m. The family will receive friends after the service and refreshments will be provided. A private interment to follow at a later date. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Resurrection Evangelical Lutheran Church Memorial Fund or the Norwich Township Heart Fund. Arrangements by the TIDD FUNERAL HOME, 5265 Norwich St., Hilliard.
