DANVERS - Allan Charles Boschen, 92, formerly of Pittsfield and Windsor, Massachusetts, passed away peacefully on Thursday, September 7, 2017 at his home.
Born in Baker, Montana, September 10, 1924, son of Charles and Grace (Young) Boschen. He married Joyce Suzanne Pizer Booher on December 28, 1965 in Springfield, Massachusetts. She died October 14, 2006. He later found companionship and spent wonderful years together with Ardis Nardone.
Allan served as a corporal in the U.S. Army Air Force Signal Corps during World War II, as an electrician and supervisor on an army air base in India. He received his Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering degree from the Newark College of Engineering in 1953 and a Master of Education degree from North Adams State College in 1972. Allan worked for several engineering companies in the 1950's including a long-term assignment in Taiwan. He came to Pittsfield, Massachusetts to work for the General Electric Company in 1961, and worked on software design and development and quality control systems for the Navy. He left GE for a teaching position at Hoosac Valley High School in 1972, returning to GE in 1979 and worked there until he retired.
Allan was a Free Thinker, a Unitarian Universalist, World Federalist, Humanist and Unabashed Liberal who strongly believed in equality and acceptance for all. Allan's passionate interest in world peace and international communication led him to his favorite activity of the international language, Esperanto. He taught numerous courses and was a major activist in promoting Esperanto as a universal second language for all.
He enjoyed travelling with his family, often to attend the Universala Kongreso de Esperanto (Esperanto Universal Congress), at locations all over the world.
In addition to his wife, he is preceded in death by his brother Jerome Boschen. He is survived by his daughter, Shirley Traite and her husband Paul; son, Daniel Boschen and his wife Elizabeth Sweetman; brother, Barry Boschen; grandsons, Charles Boschen, James McKeon and Dino Traite, granddaughter Rebecca Traite, and numerous nieces, nephews and friends.
