Graveside services for Ruth Rosetta Sitzer, 95, of Lubbock will be held at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, September 12, 2017 at the City of Lubbock Cemetery. Arrangements are under the care of Sanders Funeral Home.

She passed away on September 8, 2017.

Ruth was born January 7, 1922 in Canonsburg, PA to David and Mary Abraham. She graduated from Allegheny High School, Cumberland, Maryland in 1939. Her family relocated to Alexandria, VA in 1940.

She was a “Government Girl” who worked as a typist for the War Department during World War II and was among the first shift of employees to work in the Pentagon when it opened on January 15, 1943. During this time she met Albert Sitzer and they were married March 3, 1946. They lived in Northern Virginia until 1955, where their two sons were born. That year the family relocated to Alamogordo, NM where she continued to work for the Air Force at Holloman Air Force Base, NM. Starting in 1970 her husband’s work took them to Montreal, Canada; Albuquerque, NM; and Washington D.C. In retirement, beginning in 1980, they lived in Florida, El Paso, and finally settled in Lubbock in 1991. She was an active member of the Congregation Shaareth Israel of Lubbock.

Loved ones include her sons, Scott Sitzer and wife, Nancy of Arlington, VA and Larry Sitzer and wife, Margie of Gilbert, AZ; four grandchildren, Kelly Sitzer, Candace Sitzer, David Sitzer and Ryan Sitzer; and several nieces and nephews, as well as longtime caretaker Norma Hinojosa.

In retirement, Ruth enjoyed solving cross word puzzles, reading novels and following her family’s activities.
