Survived by his wife Frances (Rogers) Huntington, daughters Francis Elizabeth Corwin wife of Charles Lewis Corwin,

Aged 57 years
-----------------------------------
No one who knew Mr. Huntington could fall to remark his gentleness and kindly disposition, his unfailing courtesy towards others, the refinement of bis manners and ;his cultivated tastes. From all envy and uncharitableness he seemed-wholly free. The excitements to which others were roused-had no power ever to disturb his even and serene temper. These traits made his companionship enjoyable and delightful. To these were added the play and charm of his genial humor. In further illustration of his character and of bis culture as well, I am able to give the impressions of one of his most intimate friends, Erastus Clark, "Gurdon Huntington," he writes,"was gentle, forbearing, loving to think well and speakwell of others, of sunny temper, of purity of life and morals. His knowledge of the old English classics was great and accurate. He pondered over them more-than over his text books. They, to him were a delight. He was very modest, had no conceit of his attainments wide tho they were. He never pressed himself upon others. He had exquisite taste in letters and Th art. After graduating he became rector of several churches, one at Sag Harbor, one at Walton, Delaware county. At first he was quite High Church, but If my memory serves me right he became more and more evangelical as he drew down to his grave." This tribute of our common friend I think to be eminently generous- and equally just. Mr. Hunington died in 1875, aged 57 years. He was the father of Channing M. Huntington of the Utica Morning Herald, and brother of Daniel Huntington, president of the New York Academy of Design.
