Born in Salem, she was the daughter of the late John Wayne Sr. & Rachel (Ruhl) Hannah. Joan was a 1960 graduate of Woodstown High School, and she earned her Associate's degree from Salem Community College in 1981. She had worked as a draftsman at PSEG. Joan was a tireless advocate for people in our community with developmental disabilities to preserve their rights. She was a board member for many years with the ARC of Salem County and served as board president for the past two years. She was involved in the planning and participated in the annual Day In the Sun event in Salem County and numerous other ARC holiday dinners and dances. Everyone who knew her loved her. She loved the beach, especially her little beach cottage in Ocean City, NJ, and she, along with her husband, spent the past fourteen years wintering in Punta Gorda, FL.
Joan is survived by her husband of 56 years, Dave Banick; her daughters, Barbara Lamb-Bagby, Deborah Banick, Tracy Banick-Demarest (& husband, Steve), and Terry Banick; her grandchildren, Amber Minguez, Joseph and Meilyn Brace, Kaitlin and Mickey Demarest, and Sammie Boyer; three great-grandchildren; and her sisters, Betty Fessler and Dorothy Buzby.
In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her brother, John Wayne Hannah, Jr.
Funeral services will be held at 10 AM on Monday, September 11th in the H.T. Layton Funeral Home, 102 S. Main St., Woodstown, where friends are invited to visit from 5 to 7 PM on Sunday evening and from 9 to 10 AM on Monday morning. Burial will be in Lawnside Cemetery in Pilesgrove. Arrangements are by the H.T. Layton Funeral Home & Cremation Services 102 S. Main St. Woodstown, NJ 08098.
