Thank you to MyBeloved for you kind sponsorship of this wonderful man, he was truly
a gentle giant and was a joy to know. Your kindness will live in our hearts forever and we are truly grateful and wish you and those you hold dear many Blessings

Bob married Miss Alberta (Bert) Lynnette Goodson on October 16,1943 in Hurley,New Mexico at her mothers home located at 10 Pattie.

Bob started working at the Santa Rita store then later took up his fathers trade of carpenter for the copper mine located in Hurley.

The couple had two sons :

Robert L Bates
Mike E Bates

Bob was a Master Mason like his father, for many years at the Hurley Lodge #55

He was a very nice man ,he made a small pond in his yard and enjoyed watching his new crop of babies every year. I was lucky because he let this writer help him count them. It made for a great day.

Because of his trade as a carpenter,he worked on the building of houses in the town. He would help the folks build things for their homes once the mine sold the houses to their workers.

He built a swing for his family and for many years his family and grand children enjoyed it. After Bob passed the house was sold and the swing was transferred to his son Rob. It was well used and weather beaten, but this year his grand son Brian's wife Nassrin took up the task of refinishing it and what a loving tribute to Bob ,it is now ready to be enjoyed another sixty years.
