I wasn't thrilled when my husband said he was bringing an 8 week old puppy home for our young son. We had just lost a dog that we loved, but I wasn't sure if I was ready to take on the responsibility of another one. When he came in the door he reached inside of his jacket and pulled out a little tiny ball of fur. She was so small. I fell in love on the spot. The new puppy was to be for the son, but that never happend. From the day she came in the door until she left this world, she was mine. In her early days with us, I would hear her crying in the night and I would get up and put her on my shoulder, she would go to sleep and that is how we would finish the night. She always liked for me to hold her and she especially liked to lay on my chest with her head over my shoulder. She was a very small dog, but she was "resiliant." She lived to be almost 18 years old. She had gotten old and could not hear, could not see well. Her body was crippled and she could barely get around. She would get out in the back yard and become disoriented. When she had gotten so bad that we could hardly stand the condition that she was in, we gave in and put her to sleep. She went to sleep as she always liked to be...in her "momma's" arms, with me softly talking to her. We buried her in the back yard in a special place with flowers growing above her. I had given her the name of "Christina Renee" She was our "Christy, baby doggie." In her older years she became "the grand lady of the back yard."
We all miss her.
