MINONK WOMAN IS SUMMONED. Mrs. John Vissering Dies in Home After Several Weeks' Illness.
Mrs. John Vissering, St., aged 81, esteemed resident of this city 65 years, died at the family home Sunday June 3, at the family home Sunday June 3, at 6 a.m. of a heart ailment. She had been suffering from heart trouble for several years and three weeks ago grew worse and has been critically ill since. Friends may call at the home until Tuesday at 1:30 p.m. Services will be held at two from St. Paul's Evang. Church conducted by Rev. Paul Buchmueller. Burial will be in the Minonk cemetery.
Minnie Brandt was the daughter of Simon and Ecka Brandt and was born in Bremen, Germany, April 24, 1864. The family came to America in 1880 settling in this community. Her marriage to John Vissering of Minonk occurred on November 24, 1886, and they celebrated their golden wedding in 1936. Their first home was east of the waterworks pumping station where they lived 17 years and in this home their seven children were born. In 1903 they purchased their present commodious home which has always been known for its generous hospitality.
Mr. Vissering died July 14, 1940. A daughter died two days after birth and the oldest son, Folkert, a veteran of World War I, died in 1936.
Mrs. Vissering was active in church and civic affairs and was a charter member of Minonk Chapter, No. 824, O.E.S.
Surviving are three sons, Herman, John and Eckhart Vissering, all of Minonk; two daughters, Mrs. Walter Beckmann, (Viola Vissering) also of this city, and Mrs. Arthur Foster (Esther Vissering) of Springfield. There also survive, three grandchildren; Mrs. C.A. Rasor, of Phoenix, Ariz., John Howard Vissering, of this city and Lt. John A. Millard, of Kansas City, Mo. There are also three great grandchildren.
