Our old friend Capt. David Lowell, of Eureka, a pioneer of the county, passed away in the county hospital, Saturday, after a lingering illness, aged 72 years and was laid to rest Sunday in the vault he prepared for himself in Myrtle Grove Cemetery, several years ago. Few there are in Humboldt that did not know Dave and everybody liked him. He was a rough unpolished fellow, but his heart was, metaphorically speaking, as big as a watermelon.
