G. Eugene Swinehart, age 89, of Indiana, died Wednesday, September 13, 2017 at Bethany Place Personal Care Home with his family by his side.

He was born in 1928 in Lancaster, Ohio to Ivan Donald and Elizabeth Pauline Brown Swinehart.

Gene enjoyed fishing, hunting, and gardening and attended the First Church of God.

He was co-owner of the Indiana Newsstand in Indiana for many years. He also owned and operated Swinehart Printing for many years.

Some of his fondest memories were fishing with his son and daughter as children, as well as the fishing trips to Canada and the train trip out west with his wife and hunting with his son, son-in-law and grandchildren.

He also had special memories with his grandchildren: his daily walks with Jodi to the bus singing “Camptown Ladies,” and two trips out west tent camping with Ben and Matt in 2000 and 2002.

He was a staple at his grandchildren’s sporting events and school functions, a tradition he continued with his great-grandchildren until his health declined.

Gene is survived by one son and one daughter son, Daniel E. Swinehart and wife Michele, San Jose, CA and Virginia”Ginny” L. Allison and husband David, Indiana; three grandchildren, Matthew D. Allison and his fiancee Nicole Fields and her children Emilee and Luc, Indiana; Benjamin D. Allison and wife Erika, Cabot; Jodi L. Bier and husband Joseph, Saxonburg; six great grandchildren, Cooper D., Hailey R., and Sydney R. Allison and Finley J., Henry J., and Avery J. Bier; one brother, Ned and wife Ruth, Rootstown, Ohio; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife Mary Ella Burnheimer Swinehart; and brothers John “Jack” and Donald.

There will be no viewing per Gene’s request.

A memorial service will be conducted at 1:00 PM on Sunday, September 24, 2017 at the Shelocta Community Presbyterian Church with the Reverend Kathy Nice officiating. All who knew and loved Gene are welcome. Private inurnment will be made in the Greenwood Cemetery.
