GARDNER — Mary C. (Renes) Piontek, 100, of Gardner, passed away peacefully Thursday, August 31, 2017 in Heywood Hospital of Gardner.

Mary was born at home on Pine Street in Gardner on July 9, 1917, the daughter of the late Frank and Bronislawa (Morusiewicz) Renes.

She graduated from Gardner High School with the Class of 1935. Following graduation she accepted a position with the City of Gardner at City Hall, where she worked from 1937 through 1959 in the Elderly Assistance, Treasury and Audit Departments.

Mary was a member of Holy Spirit Church when she and her husband lived in South Gardner. Prior to her marriage and after the death of her husband, she was a member of St. Joseph’s Church of Gardner, where she was a Communicant and a member of the Holy Rosary Sodality. Mary was a member of Annunciation Parish/Our Lady of the Holy Rosary Church of Gardner.

Mary was much loved by her family, and in recent years was honored at family gatherings for her 95th, 99th and 100th birthdays with nieces and nephews coming from Hawaii, Texas, Rhode Island, New Hampshire, Connecticut and Massachusetts to honor her.

She was an inspiration to all as she continued to shovel her walks and mowed her lawn up until recently. Mary will be remembered for her kindness and caring nature and her amazing sense of humor, both of which continued until the time of her death.

She was predeceased by her beloved husband of forty-four years, Walter J. Piontek, who died in 1997. Mary is survived by several nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, great-great nieces, great-great nephews and sister-in-law, Irene Piontek. She was predeceased by four brothers, retired police Chief Joseph Renes, John Renes, Peter Renes and Dr. Antone Renes; sister, Jadwiga Renes; and two sister-in-laws, Lucy Renes and Wanda Renes.

Funeral services will be held from the Boucher Funeral Home, Inc., 110 Nichols Street, Gardner with a Mass in Annunciation Parish/Our Lady of the Holy Rosary Church, 135 Nichols Street, Gardner. Burial will be in St. Joseph’s Cemetery, Gardner MA.
