Ronald Paul Augustitus, 85, died suddenly Sept. 4, 2017, at his residence at Parkplace in Denver, Colo. Ron was the son of Peter Paul Augustitus and Dorothy Riddle of Taylor, Pa., where he was born. He went to high school at Rome Free Academy in Rome, N.Y., and then studied at the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania, graduating in 1955 with a Bachelor of Science in economics. He was a member of Phi Delta Theta fraternity. Shortly after graduating, Ron married Virginia Regina Valcourt of Puerto Rico. He served in the Navy from June 1955 through 1957. He lived in Puerto Rico while working at Arthur Anderson accounting firm until returning to the mainland when he began working for IBM. He initially lived in Vestal, N.Y., and after being transferred by IBM to Harrison, N.Y., he lived in Darien, Conn., for many years until retiring to Cape Cod. Ron moved to Denver in 2011 to be close to his family.

He has been described by some as a Renaissance man, endlessly curious about the world around him, which led to a lifelong love of learning. He enjoyed poetry, creating art, especially with watercolors or pastels, and developed a love of opera later in life. He was a caring person, quick to help those in his path, interested in their lives and devoted to his family. Ron was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, father-in-law, brother-in-law, uncle and friend.

He is survived by his daughter, Virginia Karen Augustitus, M.D., her husband, George Louis Sfirri Jr. and granddaughter, Graciella Sfirri. His wife, Virginia Regina Valcourt, preceded him in death in 1997.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, Sept. 23, 2017, at 10 a.m. from Kiesinger Funeral Services Inc., 255 McAlpine St., Duryea, with services at 10:30 a.m. at the Brick United Methodist Church, 935 Foote Ave., Duryea, with Pastor Sharon Dietz and Pastor Kent Moorehead officiating.
