JOHN C. PAYNE SR.
(1895-1955)
John C. Payne Sr., 59, of Garden City, east of Wheelersburg, died at 3:45 p.m. Saturday at Portsmouth General Hospital, where he was admitted Friday with a heart ailment.
Mr. Payne was a coal stripper for Detroit Steel Corp Portsmouth Division, and a member of Sacred Mission Church. Dogwood Ridge, Wilson Addition.
He was born at McDermott Dec. 12, 1895, a son of Henry C. and Rosetta Tatman Payne.
Mr. Payne is survived by his wife, Cathleen Cable Payne; four sons in the armed services, Wilford C. Payne and John C. Payne, both of Washington D.C., James M. Payne, Norfolk, Va., and Gordon E. Payne of Panama; a daughter, Helen Payne, 9723 Grace St., New Boston.
Also surviving are a brother, Harry Payne of McDermott; a sister, Marie Cade, Columbus; and 11 grandchildren.
Funeral sercies will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Emrick Funeral Home. Burial will be in Scioto Burial Park.
