David was born on August 6, 1962, to parents Bob S. Turner and Joan Turner Nelson Hart, in Long Beach, California. David was Bob and Joan's first child, and first grandchild to grandparents John and Juanita Messer.
David was full of life and had tremendous energy. From very early on David loved music, and as a young boy he taught himself to play the piano by ear. Additionally, David loved to sing from early on as well. Both singing and music meant the world to him. When he discovered the music of The Carpenters in the early 1970's, it's no wonder he was immediately attracted to the beautiful sounds and harmonies of Richard and Karen Carpenter.
