She was born in Richland, MO, on October 26. 1925 to the late Levi Harlen Stamper and the late Noma E. (Martin) Stamper. She was the third child with her older siblings being Lloyd Hugh Stamper and Lousie Stamper Wilburn, and a younger brother, Donald Stamper.
Edith was married to Roger L. English on November 24, 1945 in Merriam, KS. To this union were born two children, Sherry L. English Van Engelenhoven (Orley) of Williamsburg and Roger Gayle English (Ann) of Kingdom City. Roger preceded Edith in death on August 27, 1994.
Edith taught grade school for twenty-nine years. She taught at Gregory School for two years, followed by Grant School for two years. She completed her teaching career at Williamsburg Elementary School in the newly organized North Callaway School district, retiring in 1984 after 25 years of service.
Roger and Edith were the grandparents of eight grandchildren, Andrew Van Engelenhoven, Angelene Van Engelenhoven Richards, and John and Jared Van Engelenhoven, Josie Van Engelenhoven Nordyke, Molly English Eiken, Betsy English Bell, and John Henry English.
Edith was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and siblings.
Graveside services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, September 20, 2017 at Auxvasse Cemetery with Reverend Mike Haldeman officiating. The family will receive friends from 12:00 p.m. until the time of service at the cemetery.
