On April 15, 1867, Etta Napier married William Reed in Medina County, Ohio. Daughter Lena Reed was born later that year in Ohio. By 1970, the young family had moved to Dixon, Lee County, Illinois and then on to Chicago, Cook County, Illinois.
In the 1900 Census in Manhattan, New York, Etta said she had one living child of six born. Thus far, other known children are Mary Loretta Reed (1878-1900), Kate Lois Reed (1886-1886), and a child who died in 1883.
Etta's only surviving child Lena married in 1887 to Harry Bache Smith, who became a well-known composer in NY. By 1900, William and Etta lived in Manhattan, NY, presumably to be closer to Lena. In 1910, they moved again to Chatham, Columbia County, NY. Lena had divorced Harry and was living in Columbia County with her married son Sidney Smith and his wife Margery.
After William's death in 1910, Etta moved to Lebanon Springs, where she lived for twelve years. The year before her own death, in 1923, Etta moved to Lena's home in Canaan, Columbia, NY.
Etta Napier Reed, William Reed, and Lena Reed Smith are all buried in The Cemetery of the Evergreens in New Lebanon, Columbia, New York.
