Jessica Tyler Austen was a linguist, author, writer and correspondent. One of her books was written on the life of her father, published for Doubleday, Page and Company.
During the last eight years of her life, Mrs. Austen studied Braille and transcribed fifteen serious works into books for the blind.
She is survived by her husband, Willard Austen, Cornell librarian, emeritus; one son, Allan Austen; nieces and nephews - children of her late brother, Edward Scott Tyler, who died c. 1900. At the time of his death he was editor of the Literary Digest.
Funeral services will be held in Sage Chapel, Cornell University. Interment will be in Pleasant Grove Cemetery.
The bearers will be: Dr. A.T. Kerr, H.E. Elmer, R.W. Sailor, Harold Flack, Paul Pope, L.C. Urquhart.
