Richard "Dick" Gowan Sr. passed away at his home in Towanda, Pa., on Sept. 19, 2017. Dick formerly resided in Glen Allen, Va., for several years before he moved back to the Valley.
Dick was born on Jan. 22, 1936 in Barton, N.Y., the son of the late Donald and Alberta Gowan. He married the late Peggy Ann Price and raised their family in Athens, Pa. Dick graduated from Waverly High School, was a veteran of the U.S. Army and retired from Paxar Corporation in 1998.
He was a lifelong fan of the Giants and the Mets.

He is survived by his children, Rick and Mary Gowan, Athens, Pa., Lucinda (Cindy) and Kenneth Cron, Milan, Pa., Patricia and Carson Killian, Glen Allen, Va., and Margaret and Bradley Bidlack, Towanda, Pa. His grandchildren, Derek, Justin, Amy, Caitlin, Joshua, Jeremy, Brandi, Rob, Beth and Tayler. His great-grandchildren, Alivia, Eden-Rayne, Kamden, Khloey, Sophia, Brayden, Conner, Hunter, Peyton, Addysinn, and Cason. His brother, Gerald Gowan, Halsey Valley, N.Y., and sister, Beatrice (Petie) and Duane Horton, Apalachin, N.Y. Many nieces and nephews. Dick passed with his companion of two years, "Little One," by his side.

Dick was predeceased by his brothers, Donald, James, Robert and Jack.

At Dick's request there will be no funeral service, burial will be at a later date. His children will receive family and friends at the home of Rick and Mary Gowan, 201 N. River St., Athens, on Friday, Sept. 22 from 12-2 p.m.
Arrangements have been entrusted to the care of The Thomas Cremation and Funeral Service, 1297 Elmira St., Sayre, Pa. Those wishing to leave a private sympathy message may do so at thomascremationfuneralservice.com.
