Lorraine Pestana Adair
(1925 - 2017)
Lorraine Adair passed away on August 29, 2017 strong in her faith. Her sons were with her every day for the past month. Many family and friends visited or called to be with her despite the chaos of hurricane Harvey. Lorraine was born April 21, 1925 in Honolulu, Hawaii. She remembered an idyllic childhood where she was fortunate to experience the closeness of the Portuguese community, the care of her beloved grandparents and mother, and adventures with her brothers and sisters. Some of her favorite memories were hiking up to Punchbowl to play, pick flowers and picnic, or greeting the cruise ships at the Aloha Tower. She worked for the military engineering offices during WWII where she met and married Captain David Lewis Adair, Jr. David and Lorraine raised three sons: David L. Adair III, John Gary Adair, and Robert W Adair. Her husband, David, worked for Lockwood, Andrews and Newnam, Inc. while Lorraine managed the home, cared for children (then grandchildren), and was active in her churches: Queen of Peace Catholic Church, St. Cyril of Alexandria and St. John Vianney. She was a member of the church choirs, served in the altar guild, and eucharistic ministry. She was an active member and leader in the Women's Engineering Auxiliary, Point Counterpoint, and En Amie. She and David were charter members of the Hawaiian Aikane Club which shared with others the spirit of Aloha. Lorraine was active in these organizations and the senior groups at her church until recently. She is predeceased by her husband David L. Adair, Jr., sisters Margeuerite Goeas and Vilma Dailey, brothers John Garcia and Anthony Robello, and her grandson Christopher Adair. She is survived by her sister Dorothy Silva and her sons, David, Gary and Bob. She is remembered fondly by her daughters-in-law and many nieces and nephews. She will be greatly missed by her grandchildren and their spouses John & Holly, Sandra, Laura & Marvin, Alexis & John, Adam & Jessie, Catherine & Rob and Benjamin and great grandchildren: Evan, Colin, Muriel, Marlena, Ashley, Jacob, Marvin, Ellie, Will, Charlie, Leilani, Petra, Kai and Casey, and our newest baby girl due in December. Aloha Grammy.
