He was born at Betsy Layne, Kentucky on May 2, 1933 the son of the late Ernest and Ella Fife Blankenship.
Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Charles Edward Blankenship and a sister, Betty Lou King.
He is survived by two sons, Franklin Duran Blankenship of Elkhorn City, Ky. and Gregory Ivan Blankenship of Joe's Creek, Ky.
He is also survived by five grandchildren, Gregory Michael Blankenship, Klarisa Shae Blankenship, Vanessa Blankenship, Rebecca Blankenship and Haley Brooke Blankenship and three great-grandchildren, Kamryn Grace Blankenship, Cooper Josiah Blankenship and Karver Ivan Blankenship.
