The funeral was held on Friday at 2:00 p.m. in the chapel of Seymour Funeral Home, Goldsboro, NC. The Reverend Dr. Fred Clarke officiated. Burial followed in Willow Dale Cemetery, Goldsboro, NC.
Mrs. Thornton was born in Wayne County and was the daughter of the late Leon Crumpler and Estelle Mitchell West. She retired from Sears in Goldsboro, NC and was a member of the First Christian Church.
Survivors include one daughter, Pat Sasser Hite, and her husband, Bill, of Mount Pleasant, S.C.; one son, Michael Sasser, and his wife, Joyce, of Beaufort; her grandchildren, Carla Clifton, Jimmy Hall, Dewey Sasser, Dawn Adams and Daniel Conover; and 10 great-grandchildren.
Also surviving are her stepchildren, Shirley Powell, George Thornton, James Thornton and Nelson Thornton, all of Goldsboro.
